Houston Sightseeing

So an early start this morning.
Dived straight into the world of Uber...so easy ( don't have that in Pauanui) and we were off to the Hilton Hotel in central Houston to pick up our tour. Incidentally this particular hotel is the biggest in town. Went to Starbucks for a fix as we were all a little jaded....must have been jet lag as I'm sure the refreshments we consumed last night had nothing to do with it.

While waiting for the bus we witnessed an Indian wedding. The noise was quite horrific. Lots of singing and dancing.

The open top tour bus took us around the central part of Houston for about 90 minutes.

We learnt a lot.

The streets are very wide and clean. There are no shops and few people....Why???
Under the city they have built tunnels and that's where all the shops are. I think the man said something like 70 miles....however don't quote me on that.
The city was named after Sam Houston who fought the Mexicans and won in something like 20 minutes.
The city boasts the largest medical centre in the world. There are 75K people that work there everyday. They do a lot of research into cancer treatments. Last year there were 4.5million patients. Disneyland only had 4 million visitors in the same time...so that tells you something.

The tallest building has 74 floors.

There is a lot of building going on in anticapation of the Super Bowl being held here for only the 3rd
time.

Houston is the 4th largest city in USA.

The jail house is connected to the courthouse. The building has windows painted on it to look the same as the other buildings around it.

I am having technical problems with the photos so hopefully overnight it will resolve itself and I can show you some of the above.
Later, we went to the NASA Space Centre so a few photos and commentary on that tomorrow.
